Upset at the news that the army at Mopsuestia failed to attack the enemy who had fled, he decided to leave behind some troops and returned hastily to Constantinople from near Klaudioupolis where he received the news, for it was already late autumn, in the year when the church of Blachernai would be destroyed (in the eighth indiction of the year 6578 (1069-107:καὶ τὸ ἔτος ἐτελεύτα ἐκεῖνο, ἰνδικτιῶνος ἐνισταμέν)
