The Roman camp was surrounded, & no word came from Chliat

Summary:
The Turks encircled and attacked the Roman camp. Romanos hoped for assistance from the major part of his army, which had been sent to Chliat with Tarchaneiotes, but there was no word. Though Romanos did not realise that the force had withdrawn completely, it became increasingly clear that he would have to fight a battle with the forces at hand
