Emperor (Konstantinos X ?) confirmed with a chrysobull ownership of Phlorion & Galataria by Epiphanios protasekretis

Summary:
Psellos wrote a chrysobull for Konstantinos X rewarding Epiphanios protasekretis for helping him rise from private citizen to imperial rank. As well as making him a close imperial advisor, he gave him and his heirs permanent title to the estates of Phlorion and Galataria. The end of the document repeats several times that none of the others involved could possibly have a claim on them - not their previous owner, Nikolaos the epi ton deeseon, nor his wife, nor her daughters from her first marriage
Dates:

  • He received the estates after the confiscation (for revolt) of all the property of Nikolaos 2101; as Nikolaos insisted that they belonged to him (not his daughters), they had passed to Konstantinos 10 and thence securely to Epiphanios (:) Psellos Epiphanios 87-91
  • The end of the text repeated that title to the estates was permanent for him and his heirs; neither Nikolaos 2101 nor Anonyma 2106 nor Anonymae 2101 had any claim on them, with this chrysobull of Konstantinos 10 as a further safeguard (:) Psellos Epiphanios 90-149

  • He decided to reward Epiphanios 2101 for helping him rise from private citizen to imperial rank: he made him a close adviser and gave him two estates, Phlorion and Galataria, both of which had been confiscated from the rebel Nikolaos 2101 (:) Psellos Epiphanios 1-43
