Konstantinos X questioned Psellos' loyalty, & Ioannes kaisar tested him with dispiriting questions

Summary:
Psellos congratulated Ioannes the kaisar on his wonderful letters, which consoled him and defended Konstantinos X. Yet they told Psellos to be loyal, when he was ready to die for Konstantinos. However, the latter neither spoke kindly nor listened as before, so Psellos avoided him out of respect. Konstantinos was self-sufficient and needed no help, though Psellos had proved a loyal encomiast in the past. If he stayed out of favour, his sins were to blame. Ioannes should be a friend to both, trying to bring Konstantinos back to Psellos
