Summary:
Mamplanes, a local Turkish commander, was encouraged by letters from Manuel I to attack the German army near Bathys in the area of Dorylaion. He used a small force to test their strength and discipline, pretending flight. The Germans pursued them till exhaustion, showing their military incompetence, and many were killed. Conrad lost the fast horses Manuel had given him, and was nearly captured
