Venetian reprisals in Euboea, Chios & Lesbos did not go well: Manuel mocked them

Emperor Manuel I Komnenos (Manuel 1)
  • His garrisons in Euripos (Euboia) and Chios defeated the attempted Venetian reprisals for their expulsion from Byzantium; but for betrayal of his plans by Isaakios 108, he might have captured their fleet; even so they had to flee (:) Kinnamos 283.19-284.13
  • Sent a mocking letter to the Venetians, saying they were justly expelled from Byzantium for insolence and treachery and that their presumptious attempts at reprisals made them a laughing-stock (:) Kinnamos 285.7-20
