Capture of pseudo-castle (?) & relief of al-Atharib

Summary:
The Turks in northern Syria had already captured a pseudo-castle (?), and now Aksungur al-Bursuki besieged al-Atharib, bringing Baldwin II northwards in defence. In the face of Baldwin's march, Aksungur withdrew to safer defences, leaving Baldwin to return to Antioch

  • He moved from Tyre into Northern Syria with half his cavalry, trying to estimate where the next blow would fall, so that he could react to it; the Turks, led by Bursuq 4002, had already captured a pseudo-castle (?) and besieged al-Atharib; they retreated at his approach, and he retired to Antioch (:) pseudocastellum Fulcher of Chartres 3.55.1-5
