Death of patriarch Nikolaos III Grammatikos, to be replaced by Ioannes IX Agapetos

Summary:
Nikolaos III Grammatikos, patriarch of Constantinople, died. Alexios held his funeral in a magnificent way, then he had Ioannes IX Agapetos appointed in his place, visiting Hagia Sophia himself for the purpose, establishing him on the patriarchal throne

  • Honoured the funeral of Nikolaos 13 magnificently, then established another (Ioannes 19) on the patriarchal throne (:) Zonaras 18.25.8

  • The emperor (Alexios 1) himself visited the church and appointed him in it (:) Zonaras 18.25.8
  • Alexios 1 established him on the patriarchal throne (:) Zonaras 18.25.8

  • Having governed the Church for twenty-seven years he reached extreme old age, fell ill and died; Alexios 1 honoured his funeral magnificently, and Ioannes 19 became [patriarch in his place (:) Zonaras 18.25.7
