He was particularly warm in his reverence for the icon of the Mother of God καὶ γὰρ ἦν ἄλλως καὶ περὶ τὸ σέβας ταύτης θερμότατος. Psellos: Chronographia III 11.2-3
He was eager to appear pious; he was in fact interested in religious mattaers, but the pretence was more to him than the truth and the appearance seemed greater than the reality διεσπουδάζετο ... Psellos: Chronographia III 13.1-4
He became excessive in his enquiries about divine matters, investigating causes and reasons which one could not find through knowledge without turning to Mind and receiving the explanation of hidden things directly from there Psellos: Chronographia III 13.5-8
