Further plot of Konstantinos Diogenes & Theodora betrayed; suicide of Konstantinos

Summary:
Konstantinos Diogenes conspired with Theodora to escape to Illyricum with the connivance of the metropolitans of Dyrrachion and Peritheorion. Romanos II was away from the city at the time, at Mesanakta. When the empress Zoe was informed of the plot by Theophanes, metropolitan of Thessalonike, Konstantinos was arrested and tortured in the palace at Blachernai by Ioannes the orphanotrophos. He threw himself from the wall and broke his neck, committing suicide so as not to implicate his co-conspirators. The two bishops were sent to Romanos and set free
