Louis VII well treated as the French crusaders passed through Serdica

Summary:
As the army proceeded, Louis VII was always well received by Greek priests. But when he passed through Serdica, the doux, an imperial relative, was also very attentive, staying near him and ministering to his needs. Thus he kept the townspeople safe and also the pilgrims comfortable. Louis shared the generosity of the doux with his army, rich and poor
